To Be or not To Be

William Shakespeare is one of the most famous writers in the world. Shakespeare was born in England in the year 1564 and died at the age of 52. He had 3 children. Shakespeare wrote many poems and plays, for example "King Lear" and "Hamlet". His works are written in a very old and complicated form of the English language.
"Hamlet" is one of Shakespeare's most famous plays. Hamlet is a prince and his father (the king) died. After the king's death, Hamlet's uncle marries Hamlet's mother and becomes king. Hamlet meets his father's ghost, who tells him that he was killed by Hamlet's uncle.
Hamlet isn't sure that he can trust the ghost, so he tries to think of a way to prove that his uncle is guilty. He decides to show a play in which his uncle kills his father. Hamlet will pay attention to his uncle's behavior during the play and decide whether or not he's the one that murdered his father, according to his reaction. Hamlet's uncle angrily left the theatre after the murder scene.
Now Hamlet was sure that he knew who is father's murderer was. He wanted to kill his uncle in revenge. Unfortunately, in the end the uncle isn't the only one killed. Hamlet's mother and Hamlet himself are also killed.
In a well-known scene in the play, Hamlet says: "To be or not to be, that is the question". That sentence, which was written 400 (!) years ago, is still used today, in situations when someone has to choose between doing right or wrong. It is also used in cases when a person acts according to his beliefs and values, even if that means he must put himself in danger of losing money, social status and even his life.
We all find ourselves at times in situations where we have to make tough decisions. Sometimes our moral values (what we believe in) contradict what other people think we should do, or what seems to be more profitable for us. The phrase "to be or not to be", reminds us that our existence and our right to be who we are, depend on our ability to stay loyal to ourselves and act according to what we really believe in.
